Another reason for refurbished products is damaged or defective electronic products.  Sometimes a product has a dent, scratch, or other form of cosmetic blemish that does not pass the customers inspection and is returned.  The manufacturer can easily change the outside casing to make the product look brand spanking new.  Defective products may just have to have an electronic chip replaced and can be put back out on the market labeled as refurbished.

Overstocked and demo items become refurbished as well.  Overstocked items will sit around collecting dust, so manufacturers reduce their price and offer them as refurbished products and there is nothing wrong with them at all.  Demo items used in trade shows, as product reviews, or for office/retail become refurbished and marked at a more affordable price for you, the customer to buy.
